Description
Paper Alchemy’s C5 Euro Flap Envelopes measure 162Ă—229mm and are manufactured in Australia from premium paper stock. They are designed to hold A5 stationery (148Ă—210mm) with comfortable clearance and are available in a curated range of colours to coordinate with your invitation suite.
What Makes a Euro Flap Envelope Different?
The Euro Flap — also called a deep-V flap — features a long, pointed diagonal flap that extends further down the back of the envelope than a standard banker or wallet flap. This design lies flat elegantly, seals with a clean line, and ensures the back of the envelope looks as considered as the front.
Euro flap envelopes have become the preferred format for luxury wedding stationery precisely because of this detail: the pointed flap creates a natural focal point for a wax seal or embossed monogram, and the longer sealing edge gives a more intentional, finished appearance when the envelope is closed. For couples who are investing in premium stationery, the envelope format is not a minor consideration — it is the first thing guests see and the last impression before the invitation is revealed.
162×229mm — What Fits Inside a C5 Envelope?
The C5 format (162×229mm) is the standard size for A5 stationery. An A5 card measuring 148×210mm fits with approximately 7mm of clearance on each side — sufficient to insert and remove the card cleanly without bending or forcing. A5 is the most common format for formal wedding invitations in Australia, making the C5 envelope the natural pairing for a full-suite send.
The C5 envelope also comfortably holds a complete flat invitation suite including the main invitation card, an A5 RSVP card (when folded), an A6 information card, and a small reply envelope. For pocketfold suites with multiple inserts and additional weight, check Australia Post’s Large Letter dimensions and weight limits before sealing.
Colour Options for Your Invitation Suite
Our C5 Euro Flap Envelopes are available in a carefully selected palette of colours, designed to coordinate with PA’s invitation collections and paper stocks. Colour options span classic white and warm ivory through to blush, sage, dusty blue, charcoal, and black — allowing you to either match your envelope to your invitation stock or create an intentional contrast. The number of available colours is displayed on the product page; confirm your preferred colour at the time of ordering.
For couples who want a fully coordinated envelope suite, envelope printing is available as an add-on service: guest addresses on the front, and a monogram or return address on the back flap. Navigate to the Envelope Printing tab on this page for instructions on how to add printing to your order.
Pairing Your C5 Envelope: Liners, Wax Seals & Address Printing
The C5 euro flap envelope is built to be dressed. Envelope liners are available for C5 in both printed and coloured options, transforming the inside of the envelope into a considered detail that guests encounter the moment they open it. A coordinating liner in a botanical print, geometric pattern, or tonal colour adds depth to the suite without adding complexity to the design.
For the closure, a wax seal stamp pressed into the centre of the pointed flap is the signature finishing detail that elevates a premium envelope to something genuinely memorable. Pair your seal with sealing wax beads from Australia’s largest colour range to match your palette exactly. Custom embossing stamps are also compatible with the envelope stock — a blind monogram on the back flap adds an elegant, ink-free detail beneath the wax seal.
Packs & Quantities — Ordering for Your Guest List
C5 Euro Flap Envelopes are available in pack sizes to suit guest lists of all sizes. Check the product listing for current pack quantity options. We recommend ordering 10–15% more envelopes than your guest list total to account for addressing errors, misprints during home printing, and any additions to the guest list after initial ordering.
If you are printing addresses at home or using a template, note that the 162Ă—229mm envelope is compatible with most standard desktop printers in a portrait orientation. For large guest lists, PA’s envelope address printing service handles the entire addressing process — visit the Envelope Printing tab for details.
Australia Post Guide for C5 Envelopes
A C5 envelope (162Ă—229mm) falls within Australia Post’s Large Letter category: maximum dimensions 260Ă—360mm, weight up to 500g. A single formal wedding invitation in a C5 envelope with a standard suite of inserts (invitation, RSVP card, information card, reply envelope) typically weighs between 40g and 80g depending on paper stock. Check current Australia Post Large Letter postage rates for the applicable rate at time of sending.
For suites with heavier elements — thick cardstock, wax seals, ribbon, multiple enclosures — weigh a sealed and fully dressed sample envelope before purchasing your full postage allocation. Wax seals add approximately 5–10g per envelope. If your sealed envelope exceeds Australia Post’s flexible letter limits, consider hand-cancelling at your local post office to reduce transit pressure on the wax seal.
Are Paper Alchemy C5 envelopes manufactured in Australia?
Yes. Paper Alchemy’s C5 Euro Flap Envelopes are manufactured in Australia from carefully selected paper stocks. This is a deliberate decision: locally manufactured envelopes allow for quality control at a level that imported alternatives cannot guarantee, and the paper stocks used are sourced from world-renowned paper houses for their weight, tactile quality, and print compatibility. The 120gsm paper weight is heavier than standard envelopes and conveys the quality of the stationery inside before the envelope is even opened.
Can I print on these envelopes at home?
Yes, most standard desktop inkjet and laser printers handle C5 envelopes without issue. Load envelopes one at a time in a portrait orientation with the flap facing down, and adjust your printer’s media settings to “envelope” or “thick paper” if your printer supports it. We recommend running a test print on a plain sheet of paper cut to C5 size before committing to your full run. For a professional finish on all envelopes without the effort, Paper Alchemy’s envelope address printing service is available — see the Envelope Printing tab for instructions on adding this to your order.
What is the difference between a C5 and a DL envelope?
A C5 envelope (162×229mm) holds A5 stationery flat. A DL envelope (110×220mm) holds A4 paper folded in thirds, or A5 paper folded in half — it is longer and narrower than a C5. For standard A5 wedding invitation cards, the C5 is the correct format: it holds the card flat and presents the stationery as it was designed. DL envelopes are better suited to folded correspondence, RSVP reply cards posted by guests, or information cards sent separately. Paper Alchemy stocks both formats in the euro flap style — see our full envelope range for DL options.
