A guide to wedding invitation wording

So, you’ve picked out your wedding invitation design and it’s time to start thinking about your upcoming consult with one of our designers to fine-tune your design and wording but where to start? It can sometimes feel overwhelming when added onto the mile long list of things to be done in the lead up to your big day!

Whether you decide to stick the traditional wording or go down a more creative and whimsical path, there are some basic elements that are always included regardless. Wedding invitation etiquette rules aren’t too complicated and can actually be quite helpful when you’re working out your invite wording as they’ll give you a framework to start with.

The real end goal is to create a beautiful invite suite that represents you, your partner and the vibe of your big day while still clearly communicating the necessary details for the day. So, as long as you meet these basic requirements, you can more or less get away with anything.

With that in mind, we’ve done the hard work for you and put together a guide to take the stress out of your invite wording.

What to include on your invite

Typically, wedding invitations include the following info:

  • Who’s hosting
  • The request to come to the wedding
  • Yours and your partner’s names
  • The date, time and location of the ceremony
  • Reception location & time
  • Any other pertinent reception information (optional)
  • Dress code (optional)
  • Separate RSVP card
